SEO Tools for Indian Startups on a Budget: What to Pay For in Rupees

An Indian startup should pay for no SEO tool until Google's free tools fail to answer a specific question, then add one tool at a time on a monthly plan. At ₹95.11 to the dollar, the monthly entry prices in four guides run from about ₹1,141 (Ubersuggest) to about ₹15,709 (the highest Semrush figure), before 18% GST. This page converts them, shows where the sources disagree and maps what to buy at each stage.

What should an Indian startup pay for in SEO tools?

An Indian startup should pay for nothing until a free tool has failed to answer a specific question, and then for one tool at a time, billed monthly. The free set that covers most early questions is Google Search Console, Google's keyword and trend tools and a free crawler.

In rupees, the cheapest paid step in the sources is about ₹1,141 a month (Ubersuggest at $12) and the usual all-in-one step is about ₹9,416 to ₹15,709 a month (Ahrefs at $99 to Semrush at $165.17), before 18% GST. Those are Kanso's conversions of dollar prices that four guides print.

  • Stage 1 costs ₹0: Search Console, Keyword Planner, Trends, Autocomplete, Ahrefs Webmaster Tools and the free Screaming Frog plan.
  • Stage 2 adds one research or audit tool at ₹1,141 to ₹3,586 a month before GST.
  • Stage 3 swaps that for one all-in-one at ₹9,416 to ₹15,709 a month before GST, or ₹11,111 to ₹18,537 with it.
  • The guides disagree on the dollar price of Semrush, Ahrefs, Mangools and Screaming Frog, so confirm the figure at the vendor's checkout.
  • Group-buy plans from ₹399 are cheap because customers share one seat, and this page does not recommend them.

Kanso's rule of thumb: pay for a tool only when you can name the decision it will change, and pay for one tool at a time.

Most of the top results for this search are group-buy sellers' pages. This page puts the vendors' published prices, the rupee conversion, the GST arithmetic and the places where sources disagree in one set of tables, and it attaches a buying rule to each stage.

How was this comparison put together?

It uses dollar prices from four published guides, one source for the exchange rate and three group-buy seller pages for the shared-access market, all read on 28 October 2026. The dollar figures come from Zapier (an article dated 5 August 2026), GoDaddy India and OneLittleWeb (both undated) and ProductGrowth (prices it checked on 17 October 2026).

Each price had to belong to a named tool and a named source. The rupee column multiplies each dollar figure by ₹95.11, the rate ProductGrowth says it used on 17 October 2026, and the GST column multiplies that result by 1.18. Everything is rounded to the nearest rupee after the full calculation.

The limits matter. Kanso opened no vendor pricing page for this article, tested no tool and has no survey of what Indian startups pay. The sources are not neutral: the three group-buy pages sell access, GoDaddy promotes its own SEO suite on its page and Zapier discloses that it may earn a commission from links, so read every figure as an asking price.

The dollar prices also come from different dates, while the rupee rate is a single day's. The result is a range to budget against, not a quote.

What do SEO tools cost in rupees?

At ₹95.11 to the dollar, monthly entry prices in the four guides run from ₹1,141 for Ubersuggest to ₹15,709 for the Semrush Starter figure, before GST. The table lists every monthly figure the guides print, with the source beside it.

Published monthly entry prices converted to rupees. Rupees = dollars x 95.11 (ProductGrowth's rate for 17 October 2026); with GST = rupees x 1.18. Prices as printed by each source, not checked on vendor sites.

Semrush (Starter)OneLittleWeb$165.17₹15,709₹18,537

Screaming Frog is priced by the year. Zapier lists paid plans from $279 a year (₹26,536) and GoDaddy India gives $259 (₹24,633), both before GST, and Zapier says a free plan exists.

The sources disagree in four places, and the table keeps both figures rather than choosing one.

  • Semrush: $117 billed annually (Zapier), $139.95 for Pro (GoDaddy India; ProductGrowth's entry price) and $165.17 for Starter (OneLittleWeb). The gap from $117 to $165.17 is $48.17, or about ₹4,581 a month.
  • Ahrefs: from $29 (Zapier), $99 (ProductGrowth) and $129 for Lite (GoDaddy India). None of the pages says which plan the others describe.
  • Mangools: $29.90 for Basic (GoDaddy India) against from $37.70 (Zapier).
  • Screaming Frog: $259 a year (GoDaddy India) against $279 (Zapier).

Plan names, billing periods and dates differ between pages, so a gap may be a price change or a different plan. Billing currency is also contested: BundledSEO says Ahrefs and Semrush price in US dollars with no India-specific plan, while ProductGrowth marks Semrush and Ubersuggest as billing in rupees and Ahrefs as limited. Confirm the current figure and currency at the vendor's own checkout.

What do GST, the exchange rate and billing frequency add?

GST at 18% adds ₹18 to every ₹100 of a listed price, and a foreign-card charge sits on top, so a dollar price costs noticeably more than its plain conversion. ProductGrowth says its rupee figures are before 18% GST and before the bank's foreign-currency charge, and none of the sources quantifies that charge.

Kanso did not read the GST notification, and whether GST applies to a given invoice or can be reclaimed depends on registration, so ask your accountant. This page gives no tax advice. The 18% here is the rate ProductGrowth names, applied as an illustration.

The table runs the numbers for a year. Each monthly figure is the dollar price times 95.11, the 12-month figure is that times 12, GST is the 12-month figure times 0.18, and the last column adds them. Columns can differ by ₹1 because of rounding.

Twelve months of four plans, with 18% GST added. Monthly rupees = dollars x 95.11; 12 months = monthly x 12; GST = 12 months x 0.18.
PlanRupees a month12 monthsGST at 18%12 months with GST
Ubersuggest, $12₹1,141₹13,696₹2,465₹16,161

Semrush, $117 billed annually₹11,128₹1,33,534₹24,036₹1,57,571
Semrush, $139.95₹13,311₹1,59,728₹28,751₹1,88,479

Two comparisons follow from the table. Ahrefs at $99 costs ₹1,33,329 a year with GST against ₹16,161 for Ubersuggest at $12, a ratio of 8.25, which is simply $99 divided by $12. The two Semrush figures differ by ₹1,88,479 minus ₹1,57,571, or ₹30,908 a year with GST, so the source you trust changes the budget by that much.

Zapier's $117 Semrush figure is billed annually, so it commits you to the 12-month amount in the table. While you are unsure which stage you are in, a monthly plan lets you stop; the research does not say how much extra a monthly plan costs, so check the vendor's page.

Which free SEO tools should you use before paying for anything?

Use Google's own free tools first, plus a free crawler and Ahrefs' site-owner product, because they answer the questions most sites have in their first months. The table lists the free tools the sources name and what each is for.

Free SEO tools named in the sources, and what each does.

Screaming Frog SEO Spider (free plan)A desktop crawler that finds broken links, duplicate content, redirect chains and missing metadataZapier (free plan available); GoDaddy India (paid version unlocks unlimited crawling)

OneLittleWeb, an SEO consultant's review, says its author began with Google's free tools, ranked pages quickly with them and advises learning the basics before upgrading. That is one practitioner's account, not a study, but it matches the stage rule on this page.

One seller's page claims free tools cap keyword searches at 3 to 10 a day, so that a research session takes days. It names no tool, so treat the figure as unverified. Kanso's walkthrough of which Search Console reports a founder needs and which to skip covers the first free tool in detail.

What should you pay for at each stage?

Pay for one tool per stage and move up only when a named decision is blocked. The table sets out four stages with the sourced prices before GST; the stage definitions are Kanso's, not a published standard.

A stage-by-stage buying guide. Built from the prices in the first table, OneLittleWeb's advice to start free and upgrade by need, and ProductGrowth's three budget stacks. Rupee figures are before GST.

The framework borrows from three places. OneLittleWeb advises starting with free tools and choosing by the problem in front of you, ProductGrowth describes a free stack, a mid stack and a full-toolkit stack, and Zapier notes that all-in-one tools can make tools from other categories redundant. That last point is why stage 3 replaces the stage 2 tool instead of adding to it.

Use this three-step test before each purchase. It is Kanso's suggestion, not sourced guidance.

  1. Name the decision the tool will change, such as which topic to write next or which competitor page to answer.
  2. Try to make that decision with the free set, and write down what was missing.
  3. Buy one tool on a monthly plan and set a reminder for 90 days later. Keep it only if it changed a decision.

The research holds no data on which tools drive results for startups, so the stages rank cost and fit, not performance. If you want the free route in checklist form, Kanso's forty-check SEO audit for small sites uses no paid tool.

What do the main types of SEO tools do?

SEO tools fall into audit tools, keyword research tools, rank trackers and all-in-one suites, the four groups Zapier uses, with content and local tools as common additions. The table adds the names the sources use and the cheapest published price for each type.

SEO tool types, with names from Zapier, GoDaddy India, OneLittleWeb and ProductGrowth, and entry prices converted at 95.11 rupees to the dollar, before GST.

GoDaddy India describes the jobs the same way: keyword research, competitor research, rank tracking and link building. It also lists lighter helpers such as AlsoAsked, Answer The Public, a schema markup generator and Google's PageSpeed Insights, without prices.

An all-in-one suite is the expensive step because it bundles several rows of this table. That is worth paying for only if you would otherwise buy two or three of the rows separately.

What do group-buy SEO tools cost, and why does this page not recommend them?

Group-buy plans advertise prices of ₹169 to ₹2,499 a month because many customers share access to one retail seat, and this page does not recommend them for a startup's core SEO work. The three seller pages in the research are the only evidence on this market, and all three are sellers.

Group-buy prices as printed by sellers, read on 28 October 2026. Prices are asking prices; none was tested.

BundledSEO, which sells this service, explains the mechanism itself: a provider buys a retail seat on a tool and resells slices of it, which works because most users never reach a full seat's limits. It also lists the trade-offs: a tool can go down for a day, and a seller who quotes only in a chat window gives neither a receipt nor support. SEOToolsCart's plans are capped by daily credits and weekly exports.

The headline savings deserve a check. SeoToolzBundle quotes ₹8,200 for Ahrefs Lite and ₹10,700 for Semrush Pro as the normal price, which at ₹95.11 are $86.21 and $112.50 (8,200 divided by 95.11, and 10,700 divided by 95.11). Neither matches a dollar price in the four guides, and its claim of a 99% saving rests on those figures.

Kanso's analysis is that a startup should not build its core SEO workflow on access a vendor may cut off. The research includes no vendor's terms, so this page makes no claim about whether any resale is permitted. If you consider one, ask the seller whether the vendor allows it and whether you get an invoice.

Where a group buy can make sense, by BundledSEO's own table, is a single project that needs one tool for a month or two. That is the seller's view, and none of the pages tests reliability. The vendor figures in the first table are the prices to plan around.

Which tools cover local SEO and AI search visibility, and what do they cost?

The sources price only a few tools for these two jobs, and none supplies India-specific local data. For local SEO, Zapier lists SE Ranking from $129 a month, which is about ₹12,269 before GST and ₹14,478 with it.

GoDaddy India also lists Google Business Profile Manager, and OneLittleWeb names BrightLocal, but the research has no price for either. It also has no Indian city-level comparison, so it cannot say which local tool performs best for an Indian business.

For AI search visibility, Zapier lists Surfer from $49 a month, about ₹4,660 before GST, and seoClarity, which it says tracks brand citations across nine AI engines. seoClarity's pricing is custom, AI tracking costs extra, and Zapier gives its Research and Content tier as starting at $2,500 a month (₹2,37,775), an enterprise figure. OneLittleWeb describes a Semrush AI SEO Toolkit for smaller teams, with no separate price in the research.

Treat any paid AI-visibility view as a third-party estimate. Kanso's GEO Without the Hype grades each tactic as official Google guidance, published research, practitioner opinion or unknown, so you can separate guidance from opinion before you pay for a dashboard.

Is a cheap SEO agency or freelancer a better first spend than a tool?

A tool seat costs about as much as the low end of a small-business SEO retainer in India and does none of the work, so the first spend should follow who will do the work. Kanso's guide to SEO agency costs in India reads three Indian agency pages and puts a small-business retainer at about ₹10,000 to ₹25,000 a month before GST. One Semrush seat at $117 is ₹11,128 a month, inside that range.

That comparison is arithmetic, not a verdict. A retainer pays for a person's hours, while a tool seat pays for data you must read and act on. If nobody on your team will open the tool weekly, the seat is an unused cost.

If you do hire, the same guide lists the red flags in a cheap quote, and every source in it is a seller, so read its ranges as asking prices too.

Where does Kanso's SEO Agent fit alongside these tools?

Kanso's SEO Agent covers the audit and Search Console part of the stack, not keyword databases or backlink indexes. It audits your site and Search Console data and turns what it finds into recommendations and tracked tasks for your approval.

Its limits follow from that description. Kanso does not promise rankings, and the agent is not described as a keyword volume or backlink source, so a team at stage 3 that needs competitor backlink data still needs one of the tools above. Plan details are on the pricing page, not here, because they change.

What is documented and what is our analysis?

The first list holds what the sources state. The second holds Kanso's interpretation and arithmetic, which you can reject without losing the sourced facts.

Documented

  • The dollar prices in the first table, each attributed to Zapier, GoDaddy India, ProductGrowth or OneLittleWeb, and the four disagreements between sources listed above.
  • ProductGrowth's statement that its rupee figures use ₹95.11 per dollar for 17 October 2026 and exclude 18% GST and the bank's foreign-currency charge.
  • Zapier's four tool categories and five evaluation criteria, and its statement that all-in-one tools can make other categories redundant.
  • OneLittleWeb's account of starting with Google's free tools.
  • The group-buy sellers' prices, limits and the trade-offs BundledSEO lists.

Our analysis

  • Every rupee and GST figure, 12-month total and ratio, which are Kanso's arithmetic from the stated rate.
  • The four stages, the one-tool-at-a-time rule, the three-step test and the 90-day review.
  • The view that a startup should not rely on shared access, and the comparison between a tool seat and a retainer.
  • Not covered: hands-on tests, vendor pricing pages, keyword volume data, India-specific local data, any survey of what startups pay, and the results any tool produces.

SEO tools in India: frequently asked questions

What are the best SEO tools in India for a startup on a budget?

For a startup on a budget the best set is the free one first: Google Search Console, Keyword Planner and Trends, Ahrefs Webmaster Tools and the free Screaming Frog plan. After that, add one paid tool only when a named decision is blocked. The four guides read for this page do not agree on one best paid tool, so choose by job: Ahrefs is described as backlink-first, Semrush as the broader all-in-one, and Ubersuggest, Mangools and AnswerThePublic as the lower-priced research options.

How much does Semrush cost in India?

The guides read for this page give Semrush dollar prices, not an India-specific price: $117 a month billed annually (Zapier, 5 August 2026), $139.95 for Pro (GoDaddy India and ProductGrowth) and $165.17 for Starter (OneLittleWeb). At ₹95.11 per dollar that is about ₹11,128 to ₹15,709 a month before 18% GST. One seller says Semrush bills only in US dollars, while ProductGrowth marks rupee billing as available, so confirm at checkout.

How much does Ahrefs cost in India?

The guides give three different dollar figures for Ahrefs: from $29 a month (Zapier), $99 a month (ProductGrowth) and $129 a month for Lite (GoDaddy India). At ₹95.11 per dollar those are about ₹2,758, ₹9,416 and ₹12,269 a month before 18% GST. The pages do not say whether they describe the same plan, so check the vendor's pricing page for the current plan names.

What are SEO tools and what are their uses?

An SEO tool is software that helps improve some part of a search engine optimization effort, which Zapier groups into audit tools, keyword research tools, rank trackers and all-in-one suites. GoDaddy India lists the common uses as keyword research, competitor research, rank tracking and link building. Names you will meet include Semrush, Ahrefs, Mangools, Screaming Frog, Ubersuggest and AnswerThePublic.

What makes the best SEO tool?

Zapier judges SEO tools on five criteria: SEO-centric functionality, value for the price, ease of use, integrations and whether the tool shows your visibility in AI-generated answers. A startup should add a sixth test the guides do not state: whether a free tool already answers the question the paid one would. A tool that fails that test is a cost, not an upgrade.

Are Ahrefs and Semrush still worth paying for, or are cheaper tools good enough?

Cheaper tools are enough until competitor and backlink data is what limits your next decision, and then one of the two is worth the money. OneLittleWeb says you do not need paid tools on day one, and its own review calls Semrush expensive for small businesses. At roughly ₹9,416 to ₹15,709 a month before GST, pay for one only when someone will use it every week.

Which local SEO tools work for Indian businesses?

The sources name SE Ranking for local SEO, at from $129 a month (about ₹12,269 before GST, per Zapier), plus BrightLocal and Google Business Profile Manager without prices. None of the pages read for this article gives India-specific local SEO data, so the research cannot say which tool performs best in Indian cities. Kanso does not manage local listings.

Are there AI SEO tools for Indian startups?

Yes, but the sources price only a few: Zapier lists Surfer from $49 a month for AI search visibility (about ₹4,660 before GST) and says seoClarity tracks brand citations across nine AI engines at a custom price, with AI tracking costing extra. Semrush also sells an AI SEO Toolkit for smaller teams, per OneLittleWeb, but the research has no separate price for it.

What is a group-buy SEO tool and is it safe?

A group-buy SEO tool is a shared subscription: BundledSEO describes a seller buying one retail seat and reselling slices of access to many customers. The same seller names the risks: a shared login is what a vendor's fraud team looks for, a tool can go down for a day, and a chat-only seller gives no receipt. The research does not include any vendor's terms, so it cannot say whether a given resale is permitted; ask the vendor.

Is a cheap SEO company or a tool the better first spend in India?

Decide by who will do the work: a tool seat does none of it, and a cheap agency does only what its quote lists. Kanso's guide to SEO agency costs puts a small-business retainer at about ₹10,000 to ₹25,000 a month before GST, which is the same range as one Semrush seat at ₹11,128 a month. If nobody on your team will use the data every week, the retainer buys more.

What features are must-haves in a technical SEO audit tool?

A technical audit tool should at least crawl your site and report broken links, duplicate content, redirect chains and missing metadata. GoDaddy India lists those checks for Screaming Frog, which also audits hreflang and canonical tags, generates an XML sitemap and connects to Google Analytics and Search Console. The sources give no further must-have list.

Is an SEO autopilot tool worth the price?

The research for this page contains no tested evidence of any autopilot tool's results, so it cannot rank them or call one worth the price. Judge any such tool by the same stage rule: name the decision it replaces and check whether the free set already answers it. Ask the seller for work you can inspect before you pay.
